NORMA G. BROOKS
Norma G. Brooks, age 93, of Indianola, NE passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, in McCook, NE. Norma was born May 7, 1929, in Curtis, NE to parents Fred T. and Mae Elizabeth (Grous) Hicks. She was one of three siblings who grew up in Curtis where she also attended school. Following high school, in 1946, Norma attended the Curtis Ag School before attending McCook College for one year. Norma then taught school in the Schmitz District, west of Maywood for one year. On November 8, 1947, Norma married Junior D. Brooks of Bartley, NE. They were blessed with three children: Larry, Lonnie, and Lori. They spent their life on their farm south of Indianola, NE.
Norma was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, the Sunny Valley Extension Club and the Republican Valley/Southwest Public School Good Friends Program where she spent time reading to 3 rd Graders each week.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Brooks in 1978; parents, Fred and Mae Hicks; and her Grandparents (Grous) who raised her; and two brothers, Dale and Darrell Hicks.
Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Larry (Shirley) Brooks and Lonnie (Theresa) Brooks, all of Indianola, and Lori (Jim) Esch of Georgetown, TX; eight grandchildren, Becki, Jeff, Jared, Keith, Kari, Kayla, and Anthony and Brad Esch; 21 greatgrandchildren; two very special friends, Jerry and Nancy Renard; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7pm on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
A funeral service was held at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Memorial United Methodist Church, McCook, with Pastor Jeremy LaBrie officiating.
Burial followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Indianola. Memorial contributions are suggested in Norma’s name to be designated at a later date..
